Two things set an awning price: the arm mechanism and the fabric. People usually look at the arms. The real difference shows in the fabric.
Acrylic keeps its colour for years in the sun. Polyester is cheaper and fades within two or three seasons under Bodrum sun. Along the coast we do not recommend anything but acrylic. Fabric can be changed later, so if the budget is tight, save on the mechanism rather than the cloth.
A folding-arm awning opens and retracts whenever you want and takes no room when closed. On a cassette awning the fabric rolls into a box, protected from dust and salt, and lasts noticeably longer. If you are buying a retractable awning, consider the cassette; the difference pays for itself in a few years. A vertical markisolette drops in front of the window instead, cutting the sun before it reaches the glass.
The motorized version comes with sun and wind sensors. Do not skip the wind sensor. An awning left open in a stiff meltem damages its arms, and that is the most expensive repair of the lot.
A zip screen is a different job. The fabric runs inside side channels, so it does not flap in the wind. It is used to close off pergola and terrace edges. When people ask whether they need a balcony awning or a zip screen, we say: if the sun comes from above, awning; if it comes from the side, zip.
