When a roof leaks, the point where the water gets in is not the point where it drips. Usually it enters at the ridge or the base of a chimney, travels along the slope, and comes through in the middle of the room. That is why we do not diagnose over the phone. We come and look.
On a new roof we build the frame in galvanized or painted steel and lay OSB sheathing over it. Then comes the waterproofing membrane, and on top of that bituminous shingles or tiles. Shingles are light and suit any pitch. Tiles are heavy, and the structure has to be calculated for them.
What wears a roof out in Bodrum is not the rain, it is the wind. In a stiff meltem loose tiles shift and edge flashings lift. We spend extra time fixing down ridge and edge details, and that is where the real difference shows.
Do not undersize the gutters. In the heavy downpours that come a few times a year, a narrow gutter overflows, water runs down the wall and stains the façade. If valleys and chimney bases are not properly sealed, the roof will keep leaking however sound the rest of it is.
